Following on from last week's #wcw, we bring you Ngaio - the songwriter, vocalist and newly emerging DJ with root's running deep through the Bristol scene.
Having released a gorgeous EP on Konichiwagran Records earlier this year, Ngaio's solo material melds hypnotic neo-jazz, hip-hop beats and nu-sole vocals inspired by greats such as Erykah Badu, Gill Scott & Lauren Hill amongst others. Her voice features on many staple underground dance tracks by artists such as Phaelah, Bailey S Brown, Unkey and Gemmy, as well as label collaborations with Bristol's Durkle Disco, and being a singer or "Afronaught" with the ever-amazing Eva Lazarous.
Ngaio is now taking on the crowds in a different form - on the decks - recently closing new Gas Tower stage at Glastonbury Festival's party quarter, Shangri-La. Her mix for Famous Eno & Serocee on Radar Radio in August caught our attention with her strong 130, Bashment and Dancehall selections that show there's no way she's messing. Make sure you listen back below. You can catch Ngaio play at Cosies' Ruffnek Diskotek on 7th October. Shouts to Ngaio! Scroll down and make sure you submit your southwest #wcw. You can catch Ngaio alongside L U C Y & Beth* on Noods Radio with us, in for the PTS on Saturday 30th September at 7PM GMT.
